
What is Acupressure?
Acupressure is form of holistic healing that has been practiced for at least 4000 years and is an element of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).
It is similar to Acupuncture, using specific points on the body to relieve pain and promote healing, but using physical touch to stimulate healing instead of needles.
TCM is a healing method that treats the body as a whole, rather than treating symptoms of disease. This theory states disease is an imbalance in the body’s system. The focus of acupressure is to restore balance in the body, thus keeping disease at bay.
How does it work?
The body is a system of Meridians, which are the highways on which Qi (chi) flows. Qi is the vital energy living things are born with and fueled by Food and Air. The quantity of our Qi can be affected by things such as diet, poor air quality, lack of exercise and emotional issues. These can block our Meridians, thus leaving the body open to disease.
